Our History
The Story of Our Store and Our Beautiful Building
What began as a chance encounter between Kent and Laura Wolford in a downtown Logan parking lot sparked a life-changing opportunity—Kent purchased The Valley Homestore, blending his interior design education with over 20 years of retail management and buying experience. From the start, the goal was to create more than just another furniture shop by focusing on design, unique pieces, and inspiring room compositions. Though their initial Nibley location wasn’t ideal, it served as a foundation while Kent and his team built strong client relationships and expanded their design services.
Their true home came in the form of the iconic Edward’s Furniture building in downtown Logan—an architectural gem that had housed furniture stores for generations and stood for over 100 years. Long neglected, the castle-like brick structure with rich history and mid-century charm was in dire need of restoration. Renovating it revealed a treasure trove of preserved details: vibrant layers of paint, ornate dentil moldings, steel fluted columns with Chicago factory stamps, gargoyle faces, and a beautifully intact brick facade. With his son Kimbal, Kent tackled grueling restoration work, from ripping up commercial carpet to uncovering original wood floors and hidden brick walls. Every step revealed the building’s character and legacy, culminating in a breathtaking transformation that honored the past while creating a stunning new home for The Valley Homestore—eventually rebranded and renamed Curate Company, the name we know today.
